Cancellations by Barcelona Ocean

Barcelona Ocean courses are constantly updated and, while we endeavour to deliver the courses as advertised, there may inevitably be occasions when we will have to change some of the course contents or one or more of the lecturers without prior notice or, in very exceptional circumstances, to cancel an event.

In the case of a complete course cancellation, attendants will either be offered an alternative date, a credit note or a full refund. Barcelona Ocean will not compensate for travel fees or any other expense incurred by you as a result of such cancellation. Every effort will be made to avoid the cancellation of any planned courses.

Our course catalogue is made out of four types of courses:

  • short courses (1-3 days)
  • specialized courses (1-2 weeks)
  • graduate training blocks (10 weeks)
  • dissemination (variable length, usually addressed to residents in Barcelona area)

We currently use two payment forms: bank transfer (preferred option) and PayPal.

We have different types of courses, from dissemination courses to quite specialized topics. Dissemination courses are addressed to the general audience, any person interested in the topics related to marine science. Specialized courses are aimed at graduate and postgraduate students in marine sciences, most of the time requiring some background in specific fields as described in the course’s brochure.

Not at this time. Our formative offer is based on a close interaction of our students with experienced researchers during theoretical and practical lectures.

Specialized courses are normally given in English, as indicated in the course’s brochure. Dissemination courses and lectures may vary (typically English, Catalan or Spanish) depending on the audience, again as specified in the course’s brochure.

A discount of about 15% is applied to the course fee for early registrations. The full fee is applied within the last 20 days before the course opening.

Those who purchase a second course within the same season will benefit of a 10% discount.

It depends on the course. A typical course may have theoretical classes in the morning and practical (computer or laboratory) sessions in the afternoon, but this may change from course to another. Please refer to the course’s brochure.

Most of the courses are held at ICM’s facilities, right by the beach and near downtown Barcelona. Please refer to the course’s brochure.

Students attending to at least 80% of the classes will receive a certificate confirming their participation in the course, signed by the Barcelona Ocean responsible person and by the Lecturer(s) of the course. Some courses may have additional requirements to grant a certificate of achievement, as specified in each course specific description.
